What a GREAT Saturday!

I had spys wandering around the 3x3 tournament this Saturday. The report is in, and we heard no complaints - only good things about how well run the tournament was. I was impressed at the thought and work that went into parking. The upper snack bar area and the new ramp looked GREAT! Very nice painted parking spaces!! Then I trundled over to the pool and found no line at the pool snack bar and got myself a glass of unsweetened iced tea. A perfect day for an afternoon by the pool...

A small group of remaining pool volunteers met this afternoon to process pool membership requests. We're not perfect yet, but we've got the fire about 80% under control. Bond refunds should be getting processed soon. Anyone who has requested a refund and does not hear from us in a week or two should email me at amityac@gmail.com. The fabled second letter will be going out soon, and I will also be posting it to this blog, and to the website (amityac.net, click on the pool link on the left) soon.

Day two: Another Good Start

I am at the pool just as it opens. Snack Bar is getting ready, life guards are set. People should start arriving soon. Doesn't it look nice? (and I want to try out the photo button on this BlogPress App)

This is the view from my "office".

OK, I am a nerd!

Well, that last post was through a text message from my iPhone. It worked wonderfully, but it was limited somewhat. So I looked for AUA. (Another Useful App. Yeah, I just made that up!). This nifty app is called BlogPress. This can post a blog with a title and even allow comments. (Well, maybe; this is my first post using the BlogPress App.).

So what? Well, here it is opening day at the pool, and I am at a picnic table blogging. Yup. I am a nerd!

Opening Day at the Pool! Families are arriving, music is playing. Snack Bar is open, but I would be tempted to call it Lunch Bar - I am enjoying hot dogs and unsweetened tea. Very good! Sun is shining, good breeze. And yes, there are some brave folks IN THE WATER!!

The Pool Is Basking In The Sun

Ooooh the water is cold. But the sun is shining, heating up the water. The grass is clipped, there is a new coat of paint on the old pool. The AmityAC Pool opens this Saturday!

I know, no one is answering the phone yet... but hopefully we will discover a volunteer to take over the "secretary" duties soon. Interested? Are you an organized person with time to volunteer? The Pool Committee meets on Wednesday May 27, 7 PM. We are always looking for people interested in helping to make the decisions that make the pool run, and to help do things like... answer the phone!

Am I A Member Of The Club Or Pool?

A question that often comes up goes like this: "What is a member of the Amity AC?" (Or "Who...") Likewise, "If I am a member of the AC, can I swim?"

The Amity Township Athletic Club, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization. In order to participate in any sport other than Swim Team, you have to be a member of the AC. In order to be a member of the AC in good standing, you have to pay the annual fee. It is a family membership, which is pretty important since at this time all of our sports are for kids. Right now, the membership fees are rolled into the sign-up fees to participate in the sports. Once we complete the current restructuring, we will return to charging the membership fee separate. No worries - the fee is quite nominal. Note that being a member of the Amity AC is quite different from joining the pool.

The Amity AC Pool is wholly owned and operated by the Amity Township Athletic Club, Inc, a private non-profit organization. (That's us!) However, the membership is handled quite differently. To "join" the pool, you pay once for a fully refundable bond. Then, you pay an annual pool fee. You do not have to be a member of the Amity AC in order to join the pool.

So, if you are a member of the Amity AC (ie, you have a kid who plays sports or you paid a lifetime membership a few years ago), you still have to pay to join the pool.

Smoking at the Amity AC Pool

Is it allowed? Is it banned? Should it be allowed or banned? Smoking areas? The Amity AC has wrestled with these questions for a few years now. This is a private club and the rules are made by members. The consensus is split. In my opinion, most of the smokers at Amity AC Pool are very clean and considerate smokers, and generally find a corner to enjoy a smoke. However, I do hear those who feel that smoking is offensive. This is an issue that still needs debate and consensus at AC Membership and AC Pool meetings. If you feel strongly either way, please comment to this blog, or send me an e-mail at amityac@gmail.com. Best yet, come to a meeting. The pool meeting this month (May) will be Wednesday May 27 at the AC.

Construction Underway on Stadium Access

Construction is underway on the Access Ramp to the Stadium field, and walkway improvements. This project was funded by a state grant, and will provide an easy way for everyone to get to the playing field level on the Stadium field. Improvements will include the area around the snack bar.

Amity Pool Sign-Up Day

May 16, 2009, Saturday, prospective members of the pool can make their payments in person. Credit Cards are accepted.

Amity AC Pool Needs A Few Good People

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us manage the AC Swimming Pool. The requirement is that you must be a member of the pool.

Specifically, we need a Pool Secretary to answer the phone and follow up on registration questions. Beyond that, we need people to attend meetings and participate in discussions concerning the future and direction of the AC Pool. The Pool Committee meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7 PM at the AC.
